How to Create on Brand Content from a DIY Template

"I really want the post to stand out and look visually stimulating." ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I recently stumbled upon a Facebook a post in which the poster was searching for Canva alternatives because they didn't particularity like the look of their templates. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ This prompted the idea to share these easy-to-follow tips for anyone that is using Canva for their Instagram posts (or any other branding material) ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⚡Tip 01. Avoid the latest templates. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The reason why you want to steer clear of the latest templates is simply because everyone else is using them, at the same time as you. This makes your content seem detached from your brand and visually similar to a lot of other posts. Instead, scroll down until you find a more unique template that you think will work for you. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⚡Tip 02. Choose a template with a lot of white space. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ A more minimal template will look better and will integrate seamlessly into your feed. Choosing templates that are too busy will distract from your message and will add unnecessary visual weight. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⚡Tip 03. Match the background to your primary color. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The easiest way to make your content feel more authentically you is by changing the colors of the template to match your brand palette. Your audience identifies your content easier when it's consistent, and switching colors is the simplest way to make your content feel on brand. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⚡Tip 04. Change the fonts to match your brands typography.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Fonts are an important part of the overall design aesthetic. By sticking to a select 3-4 fonts you can again reinforce your brand & create consistency within your designs. Be sure to also follow the template's content hierarchy in order to display your message in a logical visual sequence. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⚡Tip 05. If using imagery - choose high-res files that feature people + faces. ⁣⁣ Your audience will have an easier time relating to your content when it includes actual people. Oftentimes we think choosing a general image is better for the feed and message when in fact the best way to transmit emotion is through the facial expression of someone we identify with. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ We would love to see what you create!
